In God’s great plan, our pioneering German missionaries made India their home since 1973 and began giving the best of themselves. Seeing the vast mission in India, the sisters felt the need to take Indian candidates.
Today, our region consists of 89 members: 77 sisters with perpetual vows and 12 with temporary vows, 2 novices, 9 postulants and 16 candidates. Our presence is felt in eight dioceses of six states in India. The Regional House and the houses for formation are located in the archdiocese of Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
We understand our healing ministry as restoring the image of God which has been distorted to various forms and shapes. Hence, we infiltrate into our society at different levels as teachers, health workers, and social activists, as counsellors, and youth animators. We run kindergartens, schools, rehabilitation centres for leprosy patients, orphanages, boarding homes and hostels.
The poor are the beneficiaries of ninety-nine percent of our services. Linking close to our founding spirit, most of our communities are rural-based; we identify ourselves with our people whom we serve. Looking at the various apostolates and the simple lifestyle of the sisters, it is evident that our charism, radiating the healing presence of Christ, is alive and relevant.
In India, being a mosaic of cultures and languages, pluralism is part of the Indian ethos. Our region is enriched with such differences of languages, cultures, races, and rites. In this setting, we challenge ourselves to nurture a deep familial bond among one another. Links of a great past, we are proud of our membership in our international community and feel encouraged that our charism is lived in varied styles and forms across the world.
As we discover the richness of our Franciscan vocation, the relevance of our spirituality, we are more and more convinced that our roots will go deep into the cultural and spiritual heritage of our country.
