Easter 2017

Easter is a feast of hope.  With this feast, all of the promises of God are fulfilled and His unconditional love for mankind is revealed. The resurrection gives birth to Christian faith and hope for all people.

A Chinese proverb seems fitting here:   “If you have someone to wait for you and a place to go in life, then you have achieved your life.”

The disciples and the women who accompanied Jesus had lost all hope after the death of the beloved Master. Frustrated, disillusioned and their enthusiasm shattered, they were not prepared for the mystery of resurrection.

The huge stone, rolled away the tomb, stood as a silent witness to the power of God. The women seeking the Lord heard the angel say “He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said” (Mt.28:6). The angel speaks words of hope to the dismayed disciples. A new beginning is possible for every one under the sun. Mary Magdalen, empowered with a personal message, becomes the apostle to the apostles!

Gradually, Jesus revealed the truth of his word to the disciples. It is the same message given to us every day in the Eucharist as Jesus continues to offer himself to the Father. Let us strive to imitate Jesus by giving of ourselves and reaching out to others.

The Lord is Risen! Alleluia!
