Sister M. Celinis van Mast

Relying on God’s love and mercy, our dear Sister M. Celinis, the former Helene van Mast, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, ended her earthly pilgrimage on April 23, 2019 in St. Francis House, Nordwalde.

Sister M. Celinis was born on October 16, 1929 in Vreden. She entered our Congregation on August 9, 1952 and made her first profession of vows on May 3, 1955.

For decades, Sister M. Celinis placed her life in the healing ministry of our Congregation. Initially she worked as a nurse in various hospitals of our community. From 1971 – 1975, Sister M. Celinis served as supervisor in the intensive care unit in St. Marien Hospital in Lünen and from 1975 – 1992 in the intensive care unit in St. Barbara-Hospital in Gladbeck.

Tirelessly, Sister M. Celinis worked in her straightforward and realistic way for the welfare of the patients and staff entrusted to her. Her life was marked by profound faith in God and creativity. She always radiated Franciscan cordiality, benevolence and contentment. In 1992, Sister M. Celinis returned to Münster and went initially to the convent in St. Francis Hospital.

Here, she committed herself to the sick Sisters in the surgical department. After disbanding the hospital convent in 2000, Sister M. Celinis went to the Motherhouse in Münster and she continued, working in the surgical department.

Four years ago, because of increasing health problems, Sister M. Celinis changed to St. Francis House in Nordwalde. Here, she was very fond of doing needlework. Sister M. Celinis was close to nature and she enjoyed the abundant flowering in the garden. 

Yesterday evening, about 8.30 PM, in the presence of her religious Sisters, Sister M. Celinis went to meet the Incarnate and Risen Christ, willingly and full of gratitude.

We say our farewells to Sister M. Celinis, grateful to God for the gift of her life in our Congregation and for all her kindness. Trusting God’s goodness, sure and believing, that He will call her into eternal home, we think of her in our prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist.
