Sister M. Gertrud Bienbeck

✝ Thursday, May 24th 2018

My times are in God's hands: Now I will rest, rest in You.
(Hymnal Gotteslob 818)

Trusting God’s merciful love our dear Sister M. Gertrud née Hermine Bienbeck passed away on May 24, 2018 in St. Heriburg House in Münster.

Sister M. Gertrud was born on October 24, 1924 in Alt-Schermbeck, district Recklinghausen. She entered our Congregation on August 6, 1949 and made her first profession of vows on May 3, 1952.

After her first profession of vows, Sister M. Gertrud initially served in the Motherhouse in Münster. In 1954, Sister M. Gertrud was certified as a state registered dietitian supervisor from the dietary school at St. Francis Hospital in Münster. From 1954 – 1958 Sister M. Gertrud committed herself in ‚St. Marien-Hospital‘ in Ahaus und from 1958 - 1993 in  ‚Marien-Hospital‘ in Oberhausen-Osterfeld in the canteen kitchen. Lovingly, she committed herself in the kitchen for the temporal welfare of patients, employees and her religious sisters.

On January 1, 1993, Sister M. Gertrud handed over the management of the canteen kitchen to younger hands. In Osterfeld, she committed herself in the parish church and in the hospital chapel. Very creatively, she cared for the church decoration and for the Sacristy Laundry. By the city of Oberhausen she was honored with a badge of honor for her volunteer services. Due to her balanced nature, she was well favored and respected.

In August 2014, she changed to Münster to St. Heriburg-Haus. She always showed a great interest in all happenings in our Congregation, in the church and in the world and she carried all the concerns entrusted to her to God in prayer. For herself, she remained as a modest, unassuming and content sister. In accordance with her vocation, she was loyal to her faith journey.

Over the past weeks, she was more and more dependent upon help and care and she gratefully accepted the help. Yesterday, about noon, God called her home.

We know that she is now safe and secure in the love and peace of God.
