Sister M. Wunibalda Haverkämper

✝ Sunday, June 17th 2018

One thing I ask of the LORD;
this I seek: To dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life.
Psalm 27:4

Relying on God’s love our dear Sister M. Wunibalda, née Maria Haverkämper, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, passed away on June 17, 2018 in St. Francis House, Nordwalde.

Sister M. Wunibalda was born on May 11, 1926 in Coesfeld. She entered our Congregation on April 3, 1948 and made her first profession of vows on October 28, 1950.

In 1951, Sister M. Wunibalda successfully completed her studies as a nurse and in 1955 she completed her studies as a medical-laboratory assistant. From 1956 to 1961, she served in ‘St. Joseph-Stift’ in Bremen in the department of radiology. From 1961 to 1978 she worked in St. Vinzenz-Hospital in Haselünne also in the department of radiology. She always committed herself lovingly and devotedly to the people entrusted to her.

In 1978, the Superior ministry at St. Marien-Hospital in Ahaus was given to her. From 1985 to 1992, Sister M. Wunibalda committed herself again in St. Joseph-Stift in Bremen. Altogether she served for nearly 14 years as Superior. She was a devoted and benevolent Superior for her religious Sisters.

In summer of 1992, Sister M. Wunibalda changed to St. Francis House in Nordwalde. She served at the visitor’s entrance und she assumed the office tasks. Believing and trusting, she walked the path of a disciple of Christ in Franciscan simplicity. She was a very content and cheerful Franciscan Sister with a joyful spirit. Over the last few years, she was entirely dependent on care. Despite this, Sister M. Wunibalda enjoyed the loving atmosphere. She was very interested in all happenings within our international community, the church and the world and she carried all the concerns to God in prayer. She maintained good contacts with her relatives.

Lord, grant our deceased Sister M. Wunibalda the fulfillment of her desires, complete her life and lift up Your countenance upon her. Amen.
