Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis
“So faith, hope, love remain, these three;but the greatest of these is love!” (1 Cor 13:13)
On July 14, 2018, Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Redeemer, called our dear Sister M. Angela Schrudde née Maria Schrudde, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis, home to His eternal peace in St. Francis House, Nordwalde.
Sister M. Angela was born on May 16, 1932 in Kirchhellen. She entered our Congregation on August 12, 1955 and made her first profession of vows on May 3, 1958. She initially worked as a nurse and then as a supervisor in various hospitals. Sister M. Angela committed herself lovingly, accurately and reliably to the patients. From 1969 – 1976, Sister M. Angela served as the Convent Superior and head nurse at St. Joseph-Hospital in Moers.
On the General Chapter 1976, Sister M. Angela was elected as General Superior of our International Congregation. She served in this ministry for 18 years. With sensibility, wisdom and a ready heart she committed herself to all concerns of the Congregation and the German Province. She had the ultimate responsibility for the order own hospitals and nursing homes. It was important to her that these institutions were run economically and in the Franciscan spirit.
During her time of office, she cared for the further development of the Indian Mission, which began in 1973. At the same time she supported the Japan Mission, which was founded in 1948 by the American Province. Both missions have already obtained Provincial status. The well-being of every Province and every Sister was close to her heart.
Sister M. Angela had the gift of being a good listener. She conveyed to others, being the most important person to her. She was an open minded Sister and she spread a life-affirming atmosphere. She was whole-heartedly devoted to every Sister and every person, especially to the sick and elderly and the people who were burdened with sorrows. Sister M. Angela was popular, appreciated and well respected. She lived and served in the faith in God's loving presence in every creature.
In 1994, after the completion of her third term of office, she assumed the responsibility of being the Superior of St. Francis House in Nordwalde. She fulfilled this mission, as was her wont, with Franciscan joy, with a great sense of humor and a great commitment to the community.
In February 2002, Sister M. Angela changed to St. Bernhard-Hospital in Kamp-Lintfort. Here she served in the pastoral care for about 11 years. She always had time for the patients, relatives and employees and she listened to them attentively and patiently.
Since September 2013, Sister M. Angela lived in the St. Francis House in Nordwalde. In her obliging, appreciative, loving, and attentive way, she was a mother for everyone, as long as her health condition allowed. In recent months, she experienced painful physical frailty. Thankful for the care given to her, she accepted the last phase of her life and was waiting for the coming of the Lord.
On July 14, 2018, about 9:00 AM, Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord, took her home into the eternal Father-House.We know that Sister M. Angela will now participate in the easterly glory of Christ. With love and gratitude we say our farewells to her. In prayer we commend her to the presence and goodness of God.
