Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Antera Sommer

✝ Saturday, June 8th 2019

Master, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.
(John 6:68)

On June 8, 2019 , at noon time, with the tolling of bells, the earthly life of our dear Sister M. Antera Sommer, the former Anna Sommer, was completed in St. Heriburg House in Münster.

Sister M. Antera was born on March 30, 1923 in Lingen. She entered our Congregation on August 9, 1947 and made her first profession of vows on May 3, 1950.

After completing her education as a state registered nurse in October 1950, she assumed responsibilities in the hospital administration of various hospitals and later in the Motherhouse.

In 1977, she was called to serve as the provincial secretary in the Rhine Province “Christ the King”. She took over the many tasks in the provincial secretariat with engagement and conscientiousness.

In 2003, Sister M. Antera changed to the Motherhouse and served the community in office work with a lot of loving services for the Sisters in St. Heriburg House.

Since 2014, she was a resident in St. Heriburg House, Münster. She was very close to nature. After her walks, she often came back with a self picked bouquet of flowers for the Sisters or for herself. A good relationship with her relatives was important to Sister M. Antera. She was always positive; a content Sister with a friendly nature. She went her way in prayer and calm, knowing herself safe and secure in God's hand. Quite often one could meet Sister M. Antera in the hallway and speak a friendly word with her.

In the last days her condition worsened and she awaited the coming of her Lord. Lovingly, she was cared for by the Sisters and the nursing staff.

We are grateful to God for the life of our Sister M. Antera and we believe that she is now forever united with Him, whom she has followed on earth. In prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist, we remember her and remain united with her.
