Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Irmunda Schmees

✝ Thursday, August 13th 2020

My time is in your hands. Now I can be calm, calm in you! (P. Shrub)

Our dear Sister M. Irmunda Schmees is called by God to Himself in His eternal peace in the afternoon of August 13, 2020.

Sister M. Irmunda was born on November 8, 1936 in Mesum near Rheine and entered our congregation on August 15, 1958. She made her first profession on May 03, 1961.

According to the apostolate of our congregation Sister M. Irmunda learned the profession of a nurse. After the training she was first employed as a nurse and ward sister in various hospitals such as in Lohne, Cloppenburg, in St. Franziskus-Hospital, Münster, in Greven and in Telgte - Maria-Frieden. She was always ready for action and very committed. In Franciscan simplicity, she walked the path of discipleship with faith, trust and with determination. She gladly included all concerns in her prayer.

Sister M. Irmunda lived in the Motherhouse since 1993. Here she first worked as a temporary worker in St. Francis Hospital, then in 1996 she took over the care and nursing of our elderly sisters in the Motherhouse, and from 1998 to 2001 she was employed on night duty in ward 41 and on ward 40. For almost ten years she worked in the Elisabeth Oasis with the needy people. From 2012 to 2019 she worked at the receiving desk at St. Heriburg House.

In the last few years, she had health problems time and again. After a stay in hospital she was cared for about six months at St. Franziskus-Haus in Nordwalde. In May 2020 she returned to the mother house to be close to her sister who lives in the Maria-Trost as a resident of the house. One week ago Sister M. Irmunda was admitted to St. Francis Hospital. This afternoon, trusting in God's goodness and mercy, she returned her life into the good hands of God in the palliative care department at about 3:30 pm.

We believe that Sister M. Irmunda will now share in Christ's glory. In love and gratitude, we take leave of her and recommend her in prayer to the nearness and goodness of God.

Due to the current situation, the Eucharistic celebration will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., in the closest circle in the church of the Motherhouse; afterwards Sister M. Irmunda will be buried in our Sisters' Cemetery in Münster.
