Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis
"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Lk 1:38
Trusting in God's merciful love, passed away on May 10, 2021 our dear Sister M. Verekunda Machleb
Sister M. Verekunda was born in Hildesheim on October 22, 1934. She entered our congregation on January 28, 1955 and made her first profession on October 28, 1957.
Sister M. Verekunda completed her nursing education in 1958 with the state examination. She worked as a responsible nurse and was compassionate to the patients entrusted to her. Sister M. Verekunda went on to further education and received her certificate as a state certified dietician on March 13, 1965. From 1968 to 1998, she worked in the kitchen of the Elisabeth Hospital in Recklinghausen, where she took care of the physical well-being of many people.
For a short period, she worked at the motherhouse. Then Sister M. Verekunda moved to Havixbeck-Tilbeck in 2002. She took care of the church sacristy and was involved in the patient escort service. In all her apostolates, Sister M. Verekunda took wholeheartedly care for the welfare of the people.
Sister M. Verekunda lived quietly and modestly as a Franciscan. She took the intentions of many in her prayers. In 2010, Sister M. Verekunda moved to St. Heriburg House. In the early days, she enjoyed riding her tricycle for staying mobile and enjoying nature. When the weather was bad, she rode in the long basement hallway. In the last years, she was dependent on more help and was lovingly cared for and accompanied.
Sister M. Verekunda was prepared for the coming of her Lord. We are grateful for Sister M. Verekunda's life with us. We remember her in prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist.
Due to the current situation, the Eucharistic celebration will take place on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of St. Heriburg House, followed by burial of Sister M. Verekunda in our Sisters' Cemetery in Münster.
