Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Eustachia Funke

✝ Thursday, June 3rd 2021

Be kind to one another, be merciful, and forgive one another, as God forgave you in Christ. Eph 4:32

Our dear Sister M. Eustachia Funke reached the goal of her faith in St. Heriburg House on the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 03, 2021.

Sister M. Eustachia was born on February 17, 1928 in Addrup, district of Cloppenburg, and entered our Congregation on January 28, 1949. She made her first profession of vows on October 28, 1951.

For more than 70 years, Sister M. Eustachia placed her life in the healing ministry of our community. In accordance with the apostolate of our Congregation, she served as a nurse in various hospitals until 1958. In the summer of 1958, she moved to Dorsten to the St. Elisabeth Hospital. Here she took over the administration of the nursing school. Her nature was characterized by simple piety and deep trust in God. In addition to her professional knowledge, she was always open to the questions and impulses of the students and gave them guidance and orientation for life.

From 1993, she looked after the students in the dormitory of the St. Elisabeth Hospital for many years.

She worked with great zeal for their interests. She always radiated kindness, cordiality and contentment. She showed much understanding and was heartily devoted to all.

In December 2019, Sister M. Eustachia came to St. Heriburg House, Münster. According to her vocation, she faithfully followed her faith journey. Personal prayer and the Holy Scriptures were always a source of strength for her. In the last weeks, her health condition deteriorated and she was increasingly dependent on help and care. She accepted help calmly, gratefully and serenely. Christ the Savior called her by name yesterday afternoon at about 3:00 p.m.

We trust that she may now see Christ, the light of life. He will receive her and complete her in His love. With gratitude, we take leave of Sister M. Eustachia. We ask for your prayers for her.

The Eucharistic celebration will be on Wednesday, June 09, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Motherhouse Church in Münster followed by the funeral in the Sisters' Cemetery. Due to the Corona situation, the usual rules apply.
