“Death is the gateway to life.” St. Francis

Yesterday evening, 07 November 2021, at St. Francis House in Nordwalde, died our dear Sister M. Hildegundis Schwartenbeck.

Sister M. Hildegundis was born on February 26, 1927 in Asbeck and entered our Congregation on August 7, 1948. She made her first profession on 03 May 1951.

Sister M. Hildegundis trained as a nurse and worked at St. Babrara Hospital in Gladbeck from 1953 to 1967. In 1967, she moved to Horstmar to St. Gertudis Hospital. Here she worked in the laboratory. In 1972, Sister M. Hildegundis came to St. Anna Hospital in Löningen. Here she took over the management of the laboratory. She was always helpful and full of understanding; she met the patients and her co-workers. Her modest manner was appreciated and respected by all.

In 1994, she handed over the leadership in the laboratory to younger hands. She then had her commitment in the hospital library and pastoral ministry for almost 20 years. Marked by a deep faith in Christ, who is close to all people and who can be experienced through people, she lived her vocation and met others with love. She was always open to the concerns of others.

Sister M. Hildegundis had been at St. Francis House in Nordwalde since July 2017. She was always humble and very contented Sister. She knew many folk and church songs as well as poems by heart and liked to sing them in the circle of her Sisters to the joy of all. Because of her aging, she needed nursing help in the last years. In spring, she was able to celebrate her 70th anniversary of religious profession. Full of trust she waited for the coming of the Lord. With a ready heart, she gave her life back into God's good hands last night at 8:15 p.m. in the presence of her Sisters.

Gratefully we take leave of Sister M. Hildegundis. Trusting in God's goodness and firmly believing that HE will receive her into the eternal home, we remember her in prayer and in the Eucharistic celebration.

Burial will be at 10.00 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021, at the Parish cemetery in Nordwalde. Because of the Corona Pandemic, the usual rules apply.
