Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Alburga

✝ Tuesday, October 4th 2022

"Praise and glorify my Lord and serve him with great joy.  (Canticle of the Sun of St. Francis)

At noon, on the feast of St. Francis, October 4, 2022,   the good and merciful God took to Himself our Sister M. Alburga.  Sister M. Alburga was born on May 11, 1933.  She entered our Congregation on August 10, 1957 and made her Profession on May 3, 1960.

Sister M. Alburga was born in Lindern/Osterlindern in the district of Cloppenburg. After finishing school, she worked for one year as a housekeeper, as it was called at that time, for our sisters in the St. Elisabeth children's home in Bad Rothenfelde. She then completed nursing training at the newly founded nursing school at St. Josefs Hospital in Cloppenburg. She attended the first course and passed the exam with the grade "very good".

A few months later Maria Lükmann entered our religious community and was given the name Sister M. Alburga. Her assignments were as a nurse for the sick and infants in several homes, especially in Hovestadt, Ascheberg and Liesborn. Unfortunately, she became ill at an early age, so that she had to retire from active nursing service in 1990 and became a home resident at the Convent Maria Hilf in Telgte (1990 - 2001). She then moved to St. Heriburg House in Münster, where she remained until the end. As much as it was possible for her, she came to the convent and participated in all events.

Despite her long illness, Sister M. Alburga never lost confidence and always recommitted herself to God in prayer. She venerated St. Joseph, who surely stood by her in the hour of her death and now accompanied her to heaven.

We gratefully bid farewell to Sister M. Alburga. We remember her in prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist and remain united to her.
