Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister Jolinda Snyder

✝ Saturday, October 22nd 2022

“Because even when it is celebrated on the humble altar of a country church, the Eucharist is always in some way celebrated on the altar of the world. It unites heaven and earth. It embraces and permeates all creation." (Ecclesia de Eucharistia, Pope John Paul Il, April 17, 2003)

Early in the morning of October 22, 2022, the feast day of St. John Paul Il, Sister Jolinda Snyder returned her life to her Creator in the presence of the nursing staff in Loretto Home.

Sister Jolinda visited Poland in 2007 and ever since she greatly admired Pope John Paul ll.

Sister Jolinda, the former Ruth Beatrice Snyder, was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, onJanuary 9, 1928, the daughter of Sylvester and Adeline Spayd Snyder. She entered the Congregation on September 8, 1946, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1949.

Sister Jolinda earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy, St. Louis, MO, and participated in a Theology Renewal Program at Marillac College in St. Louis, MO.

Sister Jolinda served as a pharmacist at various hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. From 1976-1979, she served as the Provincial Secretary for the Province. After retiring from her pharmacy career, Sister was a receptionist at the Corporate Computer Center of Hospital Sisters Health System from 1990-2010.

Sister Jolinda was blessed with many artist abilities; two of them worth describing. One was Rosary making and many were privileged to receive handmade rosaries as a gift. The other was the ability to cross stitch. Sister beautifully cross-stitched the Peace Prayer of St. Francis and a Nativity Scene among many others.

Sister Jolinda was very sensitive to the needs of others. When she learned that a Sister was nearing death, she often volunteered to sit with the dying Sister praying with and for her as death approached.

Sister Jolinda was very supportive of the Associate program. She served as a sponsor for several associates and continued to journey with them over the years.

Sister Jolinda had a special gift and talent to ease any tense situation with her sense of humor. There were times she came with a sheet of paper with a lot of jokes and riddles and laughter filled the room from those with her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Michael, LaVerne, Bernard, and Leo Snyder, and one sister, Mary Snyder Krodel.

She is survived by a sister, Helen Snyder of Dupont, WA, two nieces, and several nephews, great nieces, and great-nephews. We offer Sister Jolinda's family and friends our sincere condolences and the prayerful support of the Christian community.

Visitation will be held at St. Francis Convent from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father James Isaacson, S.J.C. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at St. Francis Convent. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.

May Sister Jolinda enjoy her full reward from the Lord and see St. John Paul Il face-toface, whom she greatly admired.
