Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Claudina Weßling

✝ Tuesday, February 21st 2023

"Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word." (Lk 1:38)

Anna Weßling was born and grew up in Metelen in the district of Steinfurt. At the age of twenty-three, she entered our congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Mauritz and was given the religious name Sister M. Claudina when she was initiated.

Following her nursing training at St. Franziskus Hospital in Münster, she trained as a dietician. Her first assignment as a kitchen nurse was at Freckenhorst Hospital. After that, she cooked for and spoiled her fellow Sisters in Seppenrade, in Kroge and in the Alverna old people's convent in Kamp-Lintfort. We still remember her good and tasty food with pleasure. Often the food came fresh from the convent garden to the table. From 2007 Sister M. Claudina spoiled the fellow Sisters in the St. Heriburg House in Münster by her service in the refectory. She went her way quietly and modestly. No work was too hard for her and no day was too long. Her big eyes beamed when everyone was full and satisfied. As is well known, the way to love is through the stomach. She spent the last five years as a senior citizen at St. Francis House in Nordwalde.

Our Lady was her model and her support. Sister M. Claudina was particularly fond of turning to her. She has now also taken her by the hand and led her to heaven.

We gratefully bid farewell to Sister M. Claudina. We remain united to her in prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist.

On Monday, February 27, 2023, we will celebrate the Resurrection Mass for Sister M. Claudina at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of St. Francis House in Nordwalde, and then say goodbye to her at the Parish Cemetery, where she will find her final resting place.
