Advent, a time of reflection and preparation to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Advent is not a lifeless memorial to something that happened in the past. Advent is expectation - preparation for what is to come. Advent is explained and expressed in remembrance of the Eucharist. As we participate in the Eucharist, we experience the celebration of the incarnation of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
German prayer book No. 549: Come! Let us walk in the light of the Lord!
The song from the German Prayer Book that we have recently sung in our Motherhouse Church, in response to the gospel, focuses our attention for a while on the core message of the hymn: "Come! Let us walk in the light of the Lord!" At the beginning of this Advent season, it guides us into the symbol of the light that illuminates the darkness and leads to Christ, who is the light of the world.
Candles and electric light are increasingly being seen during the Advent season. All people depend on different lights. Light as a symbol of hope! Let us humbly wait for the light that rises in our hearts. The true light of Bethlehem, which can dispel all sorts of darkness. Mary, our Mother, is our example. Mary, the Mother of God, invites us to reflect on the mystery and to welcome God's will for us and for the world.
We wish you and all who are close to your heart, a grace filled season of Advent!
