Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Farewell, Sister Sherrey Murphy

After 24 years of service in leadership of our International Congregation, the time came to say farewell to Sister Sherrey Murphy.

November 10, 2018, Fr. Michael Plattig, O. Carm., and several other priests, celebrated a Holy Mass for Sister Sherrey Murphy, the General Superior, who completes her term of office.  Sister Sherrey served the Congregation for 12 years as a General Councilor and 12 years as the General Superior.

Sister Margarete Ulager, the newly elected General Superior, Sister Herbertis Lubek, Provincial Superior of the German Province, Sister Caeclia Musekamp, the Motherhouse Superior, Sisters from the General and Provincial Leadership teams,   many Sisters of the German Province were present for the farewell.  Several friends, employees of the Motherhouse, business partners, doctors, employees from St. Francis Hospital and St. Francis Foundation; attended the celebration and a festive dinner.

Sister Sherrey lived nearly half of her professed religious life in Germany. Originally, she entered the American Province of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis, in Springfield, Illinois.  She was able to learn the German language and adapted to the German culture.

During her time in leadership, her work took her to the Sisters in Poland, the Czech Republic, the United States, the Netherlands, Japan, India, Haiti, Tanzania and other parts of the world, including Rome and Assisi.  As Father Michael mentioned in his homily, with a dedicated heart and love for our international congregation, Sister Sherrey embraced the challenges of multiple cultures, the religious and political difficulties of the countries where our sisters live and serve.

Sister Herbertis Lubek, expressed her deep gratitude to Sister Sherrey on behalf of all the Sisters of the German Province.

Generous and thoughtful gifts of flowers, words of kindness, gratitude, and prayers filled the reception hall as the guests said farewell to Sister Sherrey.

The Sisters and employees of the General Administration, the German Provincial Administration and the Motherhouse Sisters, extended their good wishes to Sr. Sherrey for the future.  Again thank you and many blessings to Sister Sherrey and to the Sisters of the American Province.

No one ever leaves forever,
a part of you remains.
