Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sr. M. Alphy

My story

‘God is alive, present and still loves the world through the consecrated persons like you and me. We are the extension of Gods heart and hands in the world of today’. I am indeed glad to share the very gift of my CALL with you all.

I, Sr. M. Alphy, OSF was born on November 26, 1982, at Ayathupady in Kerala.  I have three brothers and two sisters. I am the youngest child of my parents.  I come from a middle class family.  My parents worked hard to bring up the family and I admire their commitment and dedication to bring up their children.  My family is rooted in faith and Christian values and they love me so dearly.

My childhood

Being the youngest child, I became the pet of the family.  They sowed the seed of faith in me and their love encouraged me to love God and humanity.

I remember as a young girl I always admired the Crib and I enjoyed looking at the Child Jesus. The celebration of Christmas was sown under my heart always. My love towards the Child Jesus led me to love the cross too and to be part of this mystery.

My vocation

It was really an inspiration and enlightenment for me when my brother became a priest in the Franciscan Conventual’s and my sister became a nun in the Congregation of Franciscan Handmaids of the Good Shepherded.  The Franciscan spirit moved in the family. The thirst and longing to become one with the Lord increased in me day by day.

It was not easy to say good bye to the family. All opposed me one or another way. I was granted the permission to join any of the Kerala Congregations but not to go to the North of India.  But the desire to be a missionary was strong in me.

The Lord sent His invitation through Sr.Tessy OSF, the cousin sister of mine, who motivated me to become a member of our international community.  I joined in 2000, after completing my Pre-Degree.  I made my First Profession in 2005 and said the Final Yes to the Lord (Final Profession) June 2, 2012.

Qualifications

I completed TTC (Teacher’s training course) and now I am doing the Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.

Apostolate fields

After the first profession, I was in the communities of Kerala as a teacher and pastoral service.  At present I am in the formative community in Jhalap.

Conclusion

I marvel at my call and raise my heart in thanksgiving to the Lord for the miracle of my being.  I am grateful to my family and my sisters who support me to extend His heart and hands to the world.
