Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Cunera Bley

✝ Tuesday, February 18th 2020

  Jesus said:

Remain in me, as I remain in you
(Jn 15.4)

Believing in the resurrection and hoping for perfection in God’s glory our dear Sister Cunera returned to her creator on February 18, 2020.

Sister M. Cunera was born on December 16, 1927 in Schmertheim, Cloppenburg district. She joined our Congregation on August 5, 1949 and made her first profession on May 3, 1952.

Sister M. Cunera learned the profession of a nurse. She was very fond of working in this profession. For many years she was employed in various hospitals in the operation department or in the surgical outpatient clinic, most recently in the St. Marien Hospital in Friesoythe. From 1995 to 1998 she looked after our older sisters in the mother house, in the Johannesflur. She cared everyone with love and always worked tirelessly for them.

In the summer of 1998 Sister M. Cunera moved to Kroge to the St. Anna-Stift.   Here she looked after the guests, served at the entrance and played the organ at the liturgical celebrations. For almost 8 years she supported the Superior as council sister in the convent. She liked to do handicrafts and packed countless packages for people in need in Russia and Ukraine.

She followed the path of following Christ sincerely and faithfully. She believed and lived in the presence of Christ, which people experienced closely.   In the past five years, she has been dependent on help and care due to her increasing blindness. She deliberately prepared to go to God. Last night at 11:20 p.m. she slept peacefully in the Lord to whom she had dedicated her whole life.

May Sister M. Cunera now become a reality in what she always trusted. We thankfully say goodbye to her. We believe that she is now called to the heavenly banquet. In prayer and in celebration of the Eucharist commemorating her, we remain united with her.
