Sister M. Walfriede Schlautmann

✝ Tuesday, May 26th 2020

Lord, I hope for you. Give me your word, let me hear and understand it. Because with you there is grace. With you there is redemption and life in abundance. Yes, Lord, you will set me free, and you will lead me into your never-ending light.

(according to Psalm 130 / Sr. M. Walfriede: writing psalms in her own words to the Lay Associates in 2005)

Sister M. Walfriede Schlautmann reached her goal of faith on 26, May 2020, in St. Anna-Stift, Lohne-Kroge.

Sister M. Walfriede was born on October 19, 1931 in Hörstel-Bevergern. She joined our Congregation on January 31, 1953. She made her first profession on October 28, 1955.
Sister M. Walfriede was trained as a kindergarten teacher. From 1959 to 1979 she directed the kindergarten in Horstmar, Brake and Lindern. Devotedly and with much love, she stood up for the children entrusted to her and for her employees. She maintained good contacts with the children's parents.
Sister M. Walfriede always took great care in the interests of the religious community. In 1980 she took over the leadership of the novitiate. In her amiable and simple manner, she was a role model for the young sisters and was highly valued by them.

In 1986 she was elected provincial vicaress in the Provincial Chapter of the Westphalian Province of Mary the Queen in Telgte. From 1993 to 1997 she was the provincial superior in this province. She showed a lot of understanding towards her religious sisters and was very fond of them.

In 2000 she was given the responsibility to guide the Lay Associates. For four terms she was the superior or external superior in the convent in Mettingen, Püsselbüren, Riesenbeck and Leer-Ostfriesland.
In 2017 Sister M. Walfriede came to St. Anna-Stift, Lohne-Kroge. A few months ago she was diagnosed with progressive cancer. She endured her infirmity bravely and patiently. According to her vocation, she faithfully followed her path of faith. Personal prayer and Scripture were always a source of strength for her. Christ the Redeemer called her by name around 3:00 a.m.
We trust that she now see Christ, the light of life and that He will receive and keep her in his love. We say goodbye to Sister M. Walfriede with gratitude. We ask you to remember her in prayer.

The funeral is on Friday, May 29, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at the parish cemetery in Kroge. Because of the corona pandemic, the usual rules apply, the burial will be only in the narrowest circle.
