Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Ambrosia Schapmann

✝ Friday, October 2nd 2020

God has written us into His hand and God's hands are good hands (Cardinal Höffner)

Yesterday evening, October 02, 2020, in Maria-Josef-Hospital in Greven, the earthly pilgrimage was completed of our dear Sister M. Ambrosia Schapmann

Sister M. Ambrosia was born on February 25, 1936 in Ostbevern and joined our congregation on October 7, 1936. She made her first profession on May 03, 1964.

Sister M. Ambrosia first learned the profession of a nurse and then worked in nursing for many years. After training as a nursing Directress in 1981, she was employed as a superior at the Marien-Stift in Neunkirchen Oldenburg until 1983 and at the Maria-Hilf hospital in Stadtlohn from 1984 to 1990. She was always helpful and understanding to her fellow sisters and staff and was appreciated and respected in her way. She took the strength for her ministry from personal prayer and the contemplation of the Holy Scriptures.

Sister M. Ambrosia was in St. Anna-Stift, Lohne-Kroge from the fall of 1990. There she served as a sacristan of the convent church. In June 2006 she came to St. Franziskus-Haus in Nordwalde. Here she liked to work at the entrance of the house. She maintained good contact with her relatives.

About two weeks ago Sister M. Ambrosia injured herself in a fall with a femoral neck fracture. In an emergency, she was brought to the Maria-Josef-Hospital in Greven and was operated with good results. In the past few days’ complications began to arise that led to a deterioration of her health. Yesterday evening around 9:00 p.m., she put her life back into the protective hands of God.  According to her wish, Sr. M. Ambrosia will be buried at our Sisters' Cemetery in Münster, where her two sisters - Sister M. Canisia and Sister M. Angelica - and her aunt Sister M. Juliette are also buried.

We gratefully take leave of Sister M. Ambrosia. We thank God for her life in our community and also for all her goodness. Trusting in God's goodness and firmly believing that He will welcome her into His eternal home, we remember her in prayer and in the Eucharist.

The funeral is on Friday, 09.10.2020 at 11.00 o'clock on our sister cemetery in Münster. Because of the corona situation the usual rules apply.
