In the liturgical calendar, Advent lasts for four weeks. However, for Sister Marianna, this year it lasted only two weeks. On Saturday, December 11th Sister Marianna died peacefully at 7:12 AM. She had been hospitalized at St. John’s for over two weeks and returned to Loretto Home on Wednesday, December 8th under hospice care. Sister had asked to come home for her final days.

Anyone who knew Sister Marianna knew that she was a very intelligent person with vision, determination and courage. She demonstrated that in founding HSHS as well as in her roles as Provincial Vicaress and Superior. She had broad interests and skills that included sewing, knitting, swimming and the study of language. She was a faithful adorer in the Adoration Chapel until her recent hospitalization. She prayerfully supported the health system and the congregation during her hours in the chapel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Kosior, two sisters: Loraine Duray and Rose Marie Koopman. She is survived by a brother, Albert Kosior, Crown Point, IN, a niece and a nephew.
