The angels of God, to whom she felt particularly attached, accompanied our dear Sister on her way to God in the early hours of the morning. Sister M. Altfriede Ladleif ,Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.

Sister M. Altfriede was born in Lingen and grew up with two brothers on a farm. Unfortunately, both of her brothers were killed during the Second World War. When Anna entered the convent in 1946, a year after the war, her father also died young and her mother was left alone. 

Sister M. Altfriede was trained as a pediatric nurse in the convent, at that time called a baby nurse. She worked as a pediatric nurse in the neonatal ward in the convent in Strahlen for 35 years. When the unit was closed, she looked after the cafeteria. In 2000, Sister M. Altfriede moved from the Rhineland to Kroge in the Oldenburg district. 

We came to know and value Sister M. Altfriede as a humble and calm sister, with sparkling eyes and an open perception of the world. She especially loved flowers. The work Strahlen, known as the city of flowers, suited her certainly very well. In Kroge she also liked to go into the garden to enjoy nature. She was also a great admirer of angels. She wished that they would accompany and protect her especially on her journey through life.

A few days ago, due to illness, Sister M. Altfriede had to go to the hospital in Damme. She wished to return home to Kroge when she realized that her earthly journey was coming to an end. This was made possible. A few hours after her return, she was able to place her life back in God's hands. 

Gratefully we bid farewell to Sister M. Altfriede. We remember her in prayer and in the celebration of the Eucharist and remain united with her. 

We will celebrate the Mass of the Resurrection for Sister M. Altfriede on Friday, 9 June 2023 at 2.30 p.m.  in the convent church in Kroge.  Following the Mass, we accompany Sister M. Altfriede to the cemetery in Kroge, her final resting place. Afterwards there will be time for coffee and for the sharing of memories.
