On August 21, 2023, at the Nursing and Treatment Center in Opole-Stephanshöh passed away our dear Sister M. Edwindis Jezela, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.

Sister M. Edwindis was born on April 7, 1937, in Olesno (Rosenberg/OS). She entered our Congregation on February 2, 1959, and made her first profession on October 29, 1961, in Ullersdorf.

In the first years of her religious life, from 1960 to 1974, Sister M. Edwindis worked as an educator in the children's home in Gierałcice. At the same time, she first attended the General Secondary School in Opole and then the Medical Vocational School, where she obtained a diploma as a nurse. From 1974 to 2001 she worked as a nurse in various institutions of our province. In the difficult times for the operation of our religious houses in Poland, she was the director of the nursing home in Opole - Alexius from 1978 to 1990.

From September 2001 she lived in the convent in Groß Döbern, where she served the sisters' convent "Betania" with her nursing and caring skills until 2017. Due to the general renovation of the convent in Groß Döbern, she resided in Oppeln-Stephanshöh from 2017 to 2020, where she served the sick sisters who were treated in the facility and other patients. From June 2020, she lived again in Groß Döbern.

Sister M. Edwindis will be remembered by the Sisters as a very zealous, joyful, good and prayerful Sister. She drew her strength to serve from her deep devotion to the Mother of God. She was always devoted to the sick to whom she was sent. The care of the sick was always important to her. Quiet, modest, diligent and helpful, she helped others, especially the elderly and sick sisters, as far as her own strength and health allowed. She calmly endured the infirmities of old age and her hearing problems, which, especially in her last years, hindered to some extent her communication in the community.

Her strength gradually left her. At the beginning of 2023, she suffered a fracture of the femur. After surgery, she went to the Oppeln-Stephanshöh facility for rehabilitation. The Sisters and staff did everything they could to help her. Aware of her condition, she said to the provincial superior Sr. M. Maksymiliana a few months ago, "I accept my sufferings out of love for the Lord Jesus. I thank every sister for everything." In the last weeks, she became weaker and wanted to go consciously to the Lord. She needed the care of others. On Monday, August 21, 2023. at about 7:00 p.m., in an atmosphere of prayer and in the presence of Sr. M. Iwona, Superior of the Convent, she passed peacefully into the joy of eternal life in the House of the God Father.
