✝ Monday, September 4th 2023

Now, Lord, let your servant go in peace, for my eyes have seen your salvation.
(From the Evening Prayer of the Church)

After a long period of illness, the good and faithful God called to Himself our dear Sister M. Agnesis Sprock, Hospital Sister of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis.

Born:               January 12, 1939

Entrance:        August 12, 1960

Profession:     May 3, 1963

Died:               September 4, 2023

Sister M. Agnesis came from the Oldenburg area and joined our Franciscan community in Münster in 1960. She was born Josefa Sprock. She grew up on a farm in Bösel. Before she entered the Sisters, she did her year of service in the kitchen of the St. Bernhard Hospital in Brake.

In the congregation, Sister M. Agnesis became a pediatric nurse. She worked for several years in the neonatal ward of the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Meerbusch-Lank. A severe case of pulmonary tuberculosis changed the life of Sister Agnesis. For two years, she had to go to Neunkirchen in Oldenburg for treatment, until she was healthy again. It was certainly not an easy time for the young nun. She had to give up serving the children and was employed in administration, first in Telgte and then, from 1974 to 2004, in administering the Motherhouse. She was always humble and happy with her job. When her strength did not allow it any longer, she took over the service of the entrance desk, helped the administration of St. Heriburg in Münster, and continued to work there wherever her services were needed.  In 1919, she returned to Oldenburg, where she lived at St. Anna-Stift in Kroge. Unfortunately, her ability to think was greatly diminished, so that she was no longer able to really enjoy this time. Finally, she was constraint to her room. She gratefully accepted the loving care and concern of the staff and fellow sisters. She enjoyed every visit from her relatives and the Sisters in community.

We remember Sister M. Agnes as a great, praying and specially honoring her patron saint Joseph. No service was too much for her. She always thought of those who had needs. She went her way in silence and in humility.  In her free time, she enjoyed the garden with its flowers and the chirping of the birds.

With gratitude, we say goodbye to Sister M. Agnes. We pray for her in our prayers and in the celebration of the Eucharist and remain united with her as sisters.

We will celebrate the Mass of Resurrection for Sister M. Agnesis on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 14:30h in the convent church of Kroge. Then we will accompany her to her final resting place in the cemetery of Kroge.  Afterwards, we can share our memories over coffee at St. Francis House.
