Hospital Sisters of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis

Sister M. Almeda Brockmann

✝ Sunday, October 1st 2023

When morning came, Jesus was standing on the shore. (John 21.4)

Sister M. Almeda was born in Liesborn on March 26, 1928. She got to know and appreciate our sisters there. This led her to enter our Congregation at the age of 26. She entered our religious community on January 30, 1954. She made her first profession on October 27, 1956.

She completed her nursing training at the St. Franziskus Hospital in Münster and later attended the one-year seminar for nurses in leadership at the Werner School of the German Red Cross in Göttingen.

In 1968, Sister M. Almeda was assigned for the first time as Superior of the House and Convent in Recke. This was followed by further periods as superior in Emstek, Ankum, Brake and Cloppenburg. Everywhere she is remembered as a kind sister who was a good listener and in whom people gladly confided.

From 1999 to 2013, Sister M. Almeda lived with some fellow sisters in the Capuchin Cloister in Münster. She was very kind to everyone, offering her services wherever she was needed and taking special care of the elderly Capuchins.

When her strength no longer permitted it, she moved to St. Francis House in Nordwalde. She bore the discomforts of old age with great patience and always remained kind and affectionate.

Named after the name of our Blessed Mother, she was very close to Our Lady.  She venerated her and with enthusiasm she sang the song: "Mary we greet you, O Mary help...". On the first day of the month of the Rosary, our good God completed the earthly life of our fellow sister.

Early this morning, October 1, 2023 Sr.M. Almeda surrendered her life back to her Creator. With gratitude we bid farewell to Sister M. Almeda. In prayer and in the Celebration of the Eucharist, we remain fraternally united to her.

On Friday, October 6, 2023, we will celebrate the Resurrection Mass for Sister M. Almeda at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Francis House in Nordwalde and then say goodbye to her in the parish cemetery where she will find her final resting place.
